Personal thoughts of Voluntary work
Recently, I have been helping out at Christian Outreach centre when I got the free time. p/s: I come from a Buddhist family.
The clients from Christian Outreach centre are people with down syndrome, mentally disabled, disabled and also people who have difficulty in hearing and speaking.
I can't deny there is alot of fear when I meet someone who is different from me, but after a while I begin to feel more comfortable. They are just friendly in their way! I think by doing Voluntary work helps me to get to learn alot and know myself better, too. Like I learn about some of my fears and have a chance to grow from what I learn. And I also learn some of the hand-sign language from the staffs in order for me to communicate with the people there.
"people who have had different life experiences are able to show you things that you've never seen before ---sometimes even things about yourself."
Well... At the end of the week, I realized how much I had learnt from the group. It was a good feeling for me to do something for somebody else.
Till then.
